What Dictates Success?

Success is a term that’s thrown around a lot. We hear it our whole lives; in school, from friends, from family, and from coworkers. The real question though: do we truly know what success is for us?

You go up to 100 people on the street, ask them “what dictates success?” and you’ll get 100 different answers. Everyone has their own definition, whether it it be in their work, their family, and or what they do in their free time. Regardless of the definition, the foundation will always be the same: success lies in PURPOSE, BELONGING and a strong PLAN OF ACTION.

PURPOSE is the reasoning behind the way we act, think and feel. If a person can firmly define what they do and the driving force behind it, nothing they do can be contradicted or changed by anyone but themselves. From this mindset, failure is an impossibility and success can be the only yielding result.

BELONGING is the infrastructure behind all human actions. It’s that “gut” feeling we all have that allows us to trust whether a decision, person or place is the “right” one. With this, a person is comfortable and confident with who they are, why they’re there, and where they want to be.

A person’s PLAN OF ACTION is the blueprint for achieving their goals. It creates our “dreams,” give us a clear vision and lays the groundwork for success. Imagine you’re the captain of a ship; you’re PLAN OF ACTION is your map and by following it, you will eventually reach your destination.

Every one of us is different. We all have different passions, personalities and goals which make us who we are. Life is about finding and following the right path surrounding these; know your PURPOSE, be confident you BELONG, and have a PLAN OF ACTION and you will get where you want to be.

Success is not just reaching the destination, but the person you become on the voyage. The personal growth that transpires can often be more rewarding than the goal itself. Enjoy the journey, appreciate the work and the destination will only be more sweet once it’s reached.
